During the 1960s, rock music grew to one of the most popular forms of music of the decade. With concerts such as Woodstock, the genreās popularity not only gained national and international exposure, but it also grew in national popularity. There were certain bands that contributed to the growth of the industry at the time, and some of them were, and still are, considered some of the best rock bands of all time.
During the 1970s, the rock music scene underwent more changes, as the genre expanded, and gained new groups that would forever have an effect on the music and the musicians that would come after them to play. In fact, many musicians even today credit some of the artists from this era for influencing how they play, as well as the kinds of music that they decide to play.
One of these bands is known as The Who. This band, which was formed in the 1960s, consisted of Pete Townsend, Roger Daltry, John Entwistle and Keith Moon. The band was actually formed in the United Kingdom, and the members travelled to the United States in search of fame. They had many hit singles that were played on the radio throughout the 1960s and the 1970s, and they were also one of the headlining performances at Woodstock. They still rank among the best rock bands, and they are instantly recognizable to their fans.
There were also bands such as Styx that influenced the punk rock sub genre of rock music. This form of music has a much harsher sound, and makes use of heavy instrumentals in order to achieve the right sound.
The 1970s also saw the rise of softer rock, as well as the era of the singer-songwriter. Many of the singers of the time decided that it would be a good idea to write their own music and lyrics. This was a showing of their creativity that really attracted certain audiences. It also inspired many people to explore their own creativity.
The era also saw growth in other genres of music as well, such as R&B, country music, as well as the Disco scene was popularized during this time. During this period in time, many of these genres were trying to find themselves and define their standards. This was, and still is very difficult, due to the sheer number of artist in any given genre all doing their own thing, and creating what their interpretation of music is.
During this time, in addition to the rock music scene, there was a revival of the 1950s era rockabilly style of music. This was popularized by artist such as Elvis Presley, and other musicians at the time.
Sadly, there were also many musicians that passed away during this time, for a plethora of different reasons. One of these artists was Jim Morrison of the rock band The Doors.
Whether your favorite music is rock music, or any other form of music, there will always be those who attempt to innovate, and who inspire.
