During the 1960s, rock music grew to one of the most popular forms of music of the decade. During the 1970s, the rock music scene underwent more changes, as the genre expanded, and gained new groups that would forever have an effect on the music and the musicians that would come after them to play. In fact, many musicians even today credit some of the artists from this era for influencing how they play, as well as the kinds of music that they decide to play.

The band was actually formed in the United Kingdom, and the members travelled to the United States in search of fame. They had many hit singles that were played on the radio throughout the 1960s and the 1970s, and they were also one of the headlining performances at Woodstock. They still rank among the best rock bands, and they are instantly recognizable to their fans.
There were also bands such as Styx that influenced the punk rock sub genre of rock music. This form of music has a much harsher sound, and makes use of heavy instrumentals in order to achieve the right sound.
The 1970s also saw the rise of softer rock, as well as the era of the singer-songwriter. Many of the singers of the time decided that it would be a good idea to write their own music and lyrics.
